Christian romance novelist, Vanessa Miller, reminds us that the steps of a man, or a woman, are ordered by the Lord, no matter what plans they may make, in her upcoming release, Yesterday's Promise. She beautifully intertwines this underlying theme as she takes on the long-standing issue of women preachers through the interaction between Melinda Johnson and her ex-fiance, Steven Marks.

Melinda Johnson has always felt called to ministry. So, when her father, Bishop Langston Johnson, decides to step down after thirty years of leadership at Omega Christian Center, it seems only natural for her to take his place. But Bishop Johnson feels led by God to appoint Steven Marks to succeed him, a man who is opposed to female pastors, not to mention the fact that he is Melinda's ex-fiance.

Writing Is Not Easy Work

Writing is not easy work, but for Christians it is very important work. Christian publishers are always looking for new, creative ideas. Most read many hundreds each year just too find 20-30 to publish.
Where is publishing headed?  Will books give way to movies and television and will libraries become nothing more than museums? Will the publishing and bookselling industries collapse? Is there any hope for the future?
It is a mark of the publishing industry's poor strategic abilities that e-books have become an all consuming obsession. I believe that, ultimately, e-books are merely a cul-de-sac. Given that sales of e-books tripled in 2009 -- and continue to boom -- this may seem ever so slightly irrational, but hear me out.
I once spoke with a woman who had written a Christian book and I asked her what plans she had to promote it. She said, "I don't intend to promote it, that's the publisher's responsibility."

Wrong answer.
So, do you think every Christian needs to read your book? If you do, let us stop for a moment and get real. If you think your book is going to end up in WalMart, on Oprah, and on the NY Times Bestseller List...really, I hate to rain on your parade, but you really are setting yourself up for a lot of disappointment. It will help from the start to have realistic expectations and recognize clearly who your real market is. You must ask your self these defining questions...who, what and where? Then you must prove the why.
In recent years, the ebook publishing market, which has literally exploded in the secular world, is also rapidly becoming an emerging Christian book market.
One important way to get the word out about your book is to distribute a news release. This list of free news release outlets enables you to get a lot of visibility by investing time, not money.
If publishers are good at one thing, it's publishing. If they're good at two things, it's publishing and consecrating every aspect of the paper book, until changing anything about it seems unthinkable. This week's e-crisis: The Death of the Cover.
On March 18th, in response to the Publishing Perspectives story "Digital Case Study: Publishers' Online Marketing in Spain," Editor-in-Chief Ed Nawotka posed a discussion question asking if readers cared about publisher branding.
What a massive endeavor - to consider writing a Christian book to assist God's people in moving forward in their lives.  Although excited with the prospect of writing and publishing your book, at the same time you feel overwhelmed with the task before you in representing God's heart through the written word.
Most Christian self-publishers are selling their books on Amazon.com. They use the Amazon.com Advantage program which lets them sell on consignment for an annual membership fee. Amazon.com pays you every 30 days for books sold.
What a privilege and honor it is to write for the Christian market. I consider it to be an awesome responsibility. Christian writers have the opportunity to proclaim God's Word to millions of people all around the world. More than that, because the written word has the ability to survive generations, works created by Christian writers can even touch those not yet here.
If you've been in a Barnes and Noble, Borders, Books-a-Million, or other big chain bookstore you've probably noticed that they have a lot of books.

In the age of the Kindle and the iPhone, text is more ubiquitous than ever, but that doesn't mean users are lining up to pay for content. Readers often need a push, in the form of a strong personal brand, to get them to open their wallets.
